John Eastman, one of the legal minds behind Donald Trump’s scheme to overturn the 2020 election, said he and his co-defendants in the Georgia indictment “did nothing wrong” during a Fox News interview that aired Tuesday.

“We did nothing wrong. We were challenging the election for what even Vice President [Mike] Pence described as serious allegations of fraud and numerous instances of officials violating state law,” Eastman told host Laura Ingraham. “And if we can’t speak out about that, then our freedom of speech, our right to petition the government for redress of grievances are gone.”

Eastman is currently facing disbarment over his role in efforts to disrupt the peaceful transition of power in 2020, and is listed as one of the six co-conspirators in the Justice Department’s indictment of the former president for the scheme. The indictment describes him as having “devised and attempted to implement a strategy to leverage the Vice President’s ceremonial role overseeing the certification proceeding to obstruct the certification of the presidential election.”

Eastman attempted to pressure Pence into using a fake slate of pro-Trump electors to block Biden’s certification and blamed the former vice president for causing the Jan. 6 violence at the Capitol by refusing to block Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s victory, the Washington Post previously reported.

On Tuesday, the attorney continued to double down on the election lie in his Fox interview as Ingraham pushed back against his claims. After calling the indictment an effort to “stifle” people from receiving legal representation when bringing challenges to election results, Eastman dubiously claimed that he “had lots of evidence of fraud.”

Ingraham replied, “I haven’t seen that evidence, and I’m always wanting to see everything… I’d love to see that evidence.”

Earlier this month, Trump made a similar promise to present “irrefutable” proof that the 2020 election was rigged against him. Days after his declaration, the former president canceled the big reveal.
